McEagle Properties bid to take their NorthSide project to the people continues to grow.
The O’Fallon-based developer has officially launched a website detailing its ambitious $8 billion plan to remake 1,500 acres of north St. Louis, with more maps, drawings and history, mostly taken from presentations they’ve made to various community groups in recent weeks.
While the site is still under construction, and a bit light on specifics, McEagle says it’ll continue to update things as the project moves forward. They’re also promising a discussion board, “for everyone to post their thoughts.” Based on the comments we’ve gotten about stories on NorthSide, that discussion could get quite lively.
The site comes up not long after McEagle posted a seven-minute video on YouTube of chairman Paul McKee talking about the project, and as negotiations heat up over developer’s request for $410 million in tax increment financing (and for the city to guarantee half of that sum). They promise more. And they’ve launched a Twitter feed, available here.
This bid to put out information on the project, and to win public support, is a sharp contrast from McEagle’s five years of silent land-buying. But it’s also largely on the company’s own terms, in venues it can control. In a recent interview, McKee said they don’t plan any more large town-hall style meetings like one that drew hundreds to a Midtown church last month, though planners will continue to meet and seek public input with smaller groups.
And while you’re signing up for NorthSide’s Twitter feed, sign up for ours, too, and keep up to speed on all the latest in St. Louis real estate and development news.
