McKee takes to YouTube to pitch NorthSide plan
McEagle Properties has released “Chapter 1″ in a series of YouTube videos it hopes will “explain the NorthSide Regeneration Project” in more detail.
There isn’t much new information on this 7-minute video of McEagle chief Paul McKee speaking at his desk, but an encouragement to residents to call McEagle if they see people damaging properties in the redevelopment area, and a call for cooperation from both city leaders and members of the community to help make the project happen. McKee does say he hopes to start some infrastructure work in spring of 2010.
Anyway, check out the video here. And stay tuned for more. McEagle is also working on a website about the project, though it is currently still under construction.
Also, check out our story from today’s Post-Dispatch, on where this huge project fits into the wider debate about urban planning, both in St. Louis and nationwide.

McKee will also be discussing his North Side plans with Don Marsh on “St. Louis on the Air,” Wednesday, July 1, 11:00 a.m., KWMU, FM 90.7.
If you have no substance, go with style. If you can’t get the press to write what you want, publish yourself. If you have the money, buy the spin. This guy SHOULD be trying to help the neighborhood redevelop organically rather than ham-handedly coming it and dictating his “vision” to people who have been stalwart believers in the area. The gall of him trying to get taxpayer money to impose his will rather than taking time to develop a plan that would be supported by the area residents.
I don’t trust him any further than I can throw him by his tail.
Peg, do you know if there will be equal interview time for dissenters or is this going to be an hour of McKee bloviating? Will the only time for criticism be what the phone screeners allow in? I think of Don as even-handed usually but I would prefer this man not be given an hour of time to himself.
Everyone acts like the Northside project is such sacred ground. Here’s a news flash: there isn’t a long line of investors fighting to redevelop the Norhtside of STL. Why aren’t the leaders of this area coming up with better ideas. This city will never be a major city again because people fight everything, just because. Get over it!
One more point about tax dollars: At least we will be able to see where our money is going. How many “area” residents are living off of taxpayer money? I live in the area and I pay my own bills. As far as I am concerned “taxpayer” money has been coming into this community for years!
