New bar coming soon to SLU area
A bar is set to open this month in the newly remodeled building next to St. Louis University at 3693 Forest Park Avenue.
Called the Library Annex, the bar will occupy the ground floor of the newly redone building McGowan Brothers Development converted to 48 loft apartments from a structure that had housed a custom screen printing business. Tim McGowan said today all but five of the apartments are rented and occupied by SLU students.
He says the Library Annex is designed to look a bit like a library–at least one that has game tables and nearly three dozen flatscreen TVs. McGowan adds that the 8,000-square-foot establishment will offer provisions “a little bit better than bar food.”
A “dry run” opening scheduled for Nov. 17 will be followed by a regular opening, he says.

This is going to be great! I live in the building, called Spring Street Lofts, and they are amazing. Well managed, clean, and brand new. I couldn’t be happier, and this bar is going to be a great addition. I won’t even have to walk across the street to Humphrey’s now!
“…has has…” - nice Master’s in Journalism, Tim.
It must be nice to be perfect, Jim. I’m sure you’ve never, ever made a typo.
This building really looks great, and another bar/restaurant will definitely be a welcome addition to the SLU neighborhood.
M Brothers….tend to your downtown.
I’m sure it’ll seem cool for a few weeks…but residents will probably get over the new bar soon after thumping bass is pumping til 3AM while they’re trying to rest up before finals or something.
Don’t see why they don’t fill the old Fat Freddy’s on Laclede.
