St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch Cos. is bringing a blueberry lager called “Wild Blue” back to its hometown after selling the beer in Michigan, Wisconsin and parts of Illinois.
The brew is eight percent alcohol by volume and is aimed at craft beer drinkers. It will be sold in select grocery and convenience stores throughout St. Louis area, including Metro East.
Meanwhile, the company has submitted federal label applications for a red lager version of Rolling Rock, according to documents unearthed by BrewBlog.com, a site run by rival Miller Brewing Co. With five percent alcohol by volume, Rolling Rock Red uses “toasted caramel malt,” according to the proposed label.
âFrom the good name of Rolling Rock along with the untraditionally painted green bottle, we created this finely crafted red lager beer,” the back of the bottle reads in part, according to the label application with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, a division of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Anheuser-Busch also filed a similar application recently for Sun Dog Amber Wheat ale, a limited edition seasonal brew. The brand’s label depicts a pooch wearing shades and shorts while holding a Frisbee. The label touts Sun Dog’s slightly citrus hop aroma and caramel malty taste.
