Smurfit-Stone stock jumps after strong earnings
Stock prices for Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. spiked about 15 percent in Tuesday morning trading on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange after the company released a strong earnings report Monday.Smurfit-Stone makes cardboard boxes and other corrugated paper containers. The company’s stock opened at $9.00, up 6 percent, and had reached as high as $9.75 by 11:10 a.m. central time, after closing Monday at $8.49.
The company’s stock closed Tuesday at $9.59, up 13 percent.On Monday, the company, headquartered in Creve Coeur and Chicago, reported a 76 percent increase in its fourth quarter earnings.
