Wachovia tells Edwards technology workers of job changes

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Wachovia Securities this week notified 500 information technology workers in St. Louis that their jobs will change or be eliminated, a company spokesman said.

Wachovia, which took over A.G. Edwards & Sons in October, has been going through each department at the securities firm as integrates the two companies. St. Louis will become the headquarters for Wachovia Securities, which has been based in Richmond, Va.

The information technology workers were simply the latest group to receive displacement notices, said Tony Mattera, a spokesman. The notices say that the workers’ jobs will end or be changed by March 2009.

Employees may apply for new jobs that are being moved to St. Louis from Richmond, New York, Chicago or Charlotte, N.C., home of Wachovia Corp., parent of the securities firm, Mattera said.

Mattera said Wachovia believes it will have as many employees in the St. Louis area when the integration process is completed early next year as it had when Wachovia bought Edwards in October.

My sympathies to all who were cut. After going through the previous layoffs at Edwards, I am glad i wasn’t around for this train wreck. Good luck to you all. I hope you find jobs that are more secure for your futures.

Bagby must be so proud of himself and what he has done for St. Louis and the AGE people. What a pitiful money grubbing business man.

What they don’t say in the article is that for the displaced employees, they are providing so many alternative opportunities - both assistance in finding an external position, as well as looking at the other internal positions. Around 100 new IT jobs opened up within the past two weeks - and that’s just been recent. So it’s not like they are just kicking them out on the street, no place to go. I’ve seen companies do a lot worse - like straight fire the employees they don’t need. (Ford Mtr Co) We don’t have end dates until March of 2009, that gives us a lot of time to prepare. Wachovia is not that bad of a company. Yea, it sucks they are ending some of the positions, but hey man - change happens.
