Weather, power prices boost Ameren profit
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Ameren Corp. said fourth-quarter profit rose 77 percent, aided by last year’s rate increase in Missouri and colder weather that increased demand for electricity and gas.
Net income increased to $108 million, or 52 cents a share, from $61 million, or 30 cents a share, in the same quarter last year, Ameren said in a statement. Sales rose 16 percent to $1.4 billion.
Ameren also benefited in the quarter from higher prices for power sold outside of its service area.
The St. Louis-based company expects to earn between $2.68 and $3.08 a share in 2008 compared with $2.98 last year.
