The Borders at 1519 S. Brentwood Blvd. in Brentwood is expected to remain closed for about eight to 10 weeks due to construction aimed at repairing damage from an underground water line break.
The line burst about 3 a.m. on Feb. 14 and filled the ground floor with as much as 18 inches of water. The water caused the concrete floor on the first floor to buckle and it must be replaced, said Mike Adkins, Borders district manager. The water and resulting humidity damaged books and other inventory on the first floor.
The second floor also has been emptied as a precaution.
The store’s 21 full-time employees are working at other locations while construction proceeds, Adkins said. Borders has a total of nine stores in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
