Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. said today it collected more than 7 million tons of recyclable materials in 2007.

Smurfit-Stone, maker of cardboard boxes and other corrugated packaging, uses recycling to collect fiber for its mill system, said the company in a release. But it also collects glass, plastic, aluminum, steel and other scrap metal.

The company said its system of 24 recycling plants and 16 paper mills is the largest integrated system in the container board and corrugated packaging industry.
