SBA deciphers tax incentives for business owners

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The Small Business Administration launched an online resource center to help small business owners understand the tax incentives in the 2008 economic stimulus package.

The stimulus package, signed into law earlier this year, includes an increase in the deduction of equipment purchases to $250,000, from $128,000. In addition, businesses can deduct up to 50 percent of the cost of certain equipment purchased this year.

When they visit the online center, small business owners can read an explanation of the tax benefits, use an online calculator to estimate the first-year depreciation of their equipment and listen to a tutorial that summarizes the incentives.

“The stimulus package is designed to spur the economy by putting money back into the pockets of American workers and encouraging small businesses to invest and expand,” SBA Acting Administrator Jovita Carranza said in a statement this week. “However, many small business owners are unaware of how it could boost their bottom line.”

Hey, have you ever figured out how you are going to fix your programs to help women and minorities? We still have white men putting up their wives and minority shills to gain money from your programs, while THEY really run the company and get the profits. Yet, they still whine that they are getting the short end of the stick. I see it is still widespread from the vendors I deal with, so I wondered of you’d be fixing that anytime soon so the intended get the funding. It’s not like it hasn’t been sepcifically pointed out to you which companies are doing this. Is it make-work to write your rules so only you can interpret them with additional staff? Hmm…that sounds SO republican of me to ask, doesn’t it?
