Simmons quits YTB board

A prominent Metro East trial lawyer has quit the board of directors of YTB International, the Wood River-based travel company that faces a range of legal scrutiny.

John Simmons, founder of SimmonsCooper LLC in East Alton, resigned from the board Wednesday, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing by the company late Friday. Simmons quit because he belived “he could not effectively influence the practices of the Company’s management,” according to the filing.

When reached Tuesday, Simmons declined to comment further, saying he’d let the filing “speak for itself.” Simmons had been on the board since late 2006 and was considered an independent director.

His departure comes as YTB faces a deceptive marketing lawsuit filed last month by California Attorney General Jerry Brown and two class-action lawsuits filed in East St. Louis, lawsuits it has vowed to fight. The company has seen its stock price battered in recent weeks since the suits were filed, and is suffering the first-ever decline in its ranks of “referring travel agents” who pay $450 up front and $50 a month for travel sales websites and contribute the bulk of YTB’s revenue.

In recent years, YTB has conducted business with several companies owned by its top executives and members of its board, a practice many corporate governance experts question. Simmons himself was not involved in any of those deals, aside from approving some of them as a board member. Before he joined the board, however, he controlled a company that sold YTB some land for its headquarters complex in Wood River. He also bought the Godfrey home of YTB’s founder, J. Lloyd “Coach” Tomer, in 2003, then sold it back to Tomer last year for company stock. Simmons will be able to take back that house, however, if YTB’s stock doesn’t spend 90 consecutive days above $2.00 by 2011. It closed Tuesday at $0.69.

I am in YTB..and I am also a SR.Sales Director in Mary Kay Inc.
An independent director. just like in YTB.
Mary Kay the company has been sued many many times.
there are no promises of riches from either company. but the riches
are there if you want to work.
This company is a great company. Even if you only use the plan for yourself, it is well worth the investment.
People like to critize things they can’t do. or things they don’t
understand. the Price to join this company is such a small amount .. I can’t believe anyone would be so against it. I have spent more money on
two suits than the cost of getting in this company.

Amen Linda!

I have been in YTB since November of 2007. I am living proof that it takes minimal effort to benefit from this company. I have made my initial investment back within a few months and now have a FREE website with NO overhead… with MINIMAL effort. What other business can do that?

I look forward to putting more effort so that I can get more back.

YTB is a blessing that gets a bad rap from those who call it a curse. The REAL curse is that those who fail in it, didn’t try!

My husband & I have been in the business less than 1 year. It is work and there is no free lunch! But, since travel is already a 7 Trillion dollar a year industry, only a fool would think about quitting! This business is taking off! We love the travel industry and what YTB has to offer! YTB has the best compensation plan in the network marketing industry and sure beats a regular JOB! Obviously, when you are successful, others try to bring you down, just like Microsoft! When you Google “Lawsuits and Microsoft”, you get over 27,000 pages! Those that did not throw in the towel at Microsoft are pretty darn happy and so will we when YTB is NO#1!

I am also in YTB. The Company provides a business and training to help you. But like many, I didn’t apply myself to make my business work. Yes I paid the fee to join, and a website, that was my choice. It was up to me to grow my business not YTB. The Loss of my investment was my fault. It is a risk as with any investment one may try and i knew the risk going into it. I have not done anything with YTB since I joined almost three years ago. The one time $450 fee allows me to be a member and I can take as long as I want to develop my company. So even after three years If want to try to make my business work i still can.

It fairly boggles the mind of an intelligent person that people who sign up in any mlm lose all sensibility. As a veteran and very successful networker I am amazed that common sense doesn’t tell you some VERY fishy things are going on at YTB. The owners willy nilly sell stock and then have the nerve to ask the Board of Directors for more “FREE” stock further diluting the shareholder’s equity… something frowned on by Wallstreet and the SEC. When combining their sale of shares of stock with their excessive commissions the amount for 2007/08 exceed $10 million dollars. The company reported less than $2 million of profits in 2007. Doesn’t anyone see what’s wrong with this picture? When you see the captain and his cronies abandoning ship… wouldn’t a reasonable person look for a lifeboat? How in good conscientious can anyone of character sell a YTB Online Travel Agency under the legal shadows which exist? Seems that it is likely the SEC will step in soon and end this dark comedy.

I believe that the reason YTB only meets in large groups is because YTB is a huge brainwashing scam for the people at the top to get rich and the people in the middle and the bottom to struggle along!! If YTB was so great wouldnt the stock be work more than a double cheeseburger at Mcdonalds?? And the prices of the trips are not the best!! I know a company that has better prices and pays higher commissions!! email me if you wanna know more. jason.clark77@yahoo.com
