Just in time for the weekend: The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has posted on its Web site most of AmerenUE’s application for a Callaway 2 nuclear plant. It can be found here.
Most of the 8,000-page combined license application, or COLA as its known, is included and broken down into more than a dozen chapters, categorized by subject (General Information, Environmental Report, Emergency Plan, etc.).
A few notable details are missing, such as the projected cost. AmerenUE CEO Tom Voss has previously estimated the cost of Callaway 2 at $6 billion or more; perhaps $9 billion including financing.
AmerenUE won’t make a decision for at least a couple of years whether to build another nuke, but it’s going ahead with licensing to be eligible for federal incentives.
