Democratic leaders stall vote for automakers’ aid
Democratic leaders in Congress postponed a decision on giving loans to automakers until next month and told the car companies to return with a plan outlining how the money would make the industry viable, media outlets reported this afternoon.
House speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., made the announcement shortly before a bipartisan group of senators — including Missouri Republican Christopher “Kit” Bond — planned to explain their deal for the struggling automakers.
Bill Lambrecht, the Post-Dispatch’s Washington bureau chief, outlined Bond’s efforts to provide loans to automakers in a story today.
