In its latest move to spur more new-vehicle sales, Chrysler LLC said that it would offer its well-known 5.7-liter HEMI engine for free on the Dodge Ram 1500 this month.

The HEMI package is worth about $1,200, said Steven Landry, executive vice president of sales and marketing, service and parts, during a conference call today to talk about February U.S. sales.

Already Chrysler has been offering its Employee Pricing Plus Plus program for 2008 and 2009 vehicles. The program, which started last month after Chrysler Financial received $1.5 billion in federal loans, is continuing through the end of this month. Customers buying or leasing a vehicle can get employee pricing plus cash discounts and, for qualified consumers, zero percent financing.

By the way, Chrysler’s Fenton plant makes the 1500 Dodge Ram, but the 5.7-liter HEMI engine is made at the Saltillo Engine Plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.

More taxpayer bailout money will be on it’s way, and it still won’t fix the situation!!!

Free Hemi’s?
What a marketing scam. The Chrysler company has thousands of trucks sitting on dealer lots and farmer’s fields rotting with Hemi’s in them. The HEMI you are getting comes from Mexico. Just like the Ram truck will in a couple months after they idle the Fenton Truck Plant.
The Hemi is free but all the other options will be raised to cover the cost.
I think the Wall Street Journal stated that Chrysler has a 132 day supply of trucks. But, that is based on people actually buying them. Which they are not. Get rid of some of the front office DEAD WEIGHT. Then you can lower the prices of these gas guzzlers. Farmer’s are not even buying them, they are buying the Cummins diesel models.
No more taxpayer money for you SLUGS.

How much inventory do you think every other manufacturer in the country has on their hands. Toyota’s sales were down 40%. I got an idea why don’t we give taxpayer money to banks and insurance at staggering rates and not expect them to come up with a better plan to do business, at least they are making the big 3 have a viable option to be able to get LOANED gov’t money. Farmer’s want diesels because they outwork gas engines and they have ample supply of diesel on hand for their tractors so it’s not even aimed at them anyways.
