On Tuesday, Schnuck Markets Inc. opens its new 74,000-square-foot flagship store at 12332 Manchester Road, near West County Center in Des Peres.

The new Schnucks store, which includes the grocery chain’s first cooking school, offers a Kaldi’s coffee shop, a walk-in beer cooler, an aged beef cooler, a cheese room and wine display.

Don’t get me wrong,I like Schnucks stores, but living here in the “Lou” of the city we don’t get the perks like a cheese room or an aged beef cooler.Do they have valet parking at that store???PS-We do get extended beer and liquor selections at Shop N’ Save hmmmmmmmmm……!

Chain retailers like Schnucks need to be obliged to find uses for their vacated properties… as it is, the former location of the Des Peres Schnucks should now be renamed Manchester & BLIGHT !

If DesPeres can call West County Center ‘blighted’, they can declare the old Schnucks store ‘blighted’. They could take the old Schnucks store through ED (at fair market value). The City could then issue an RFP for developers to re-develop the site - a safe bet is the City would make a handsome profit with no tax abatement offered because the new tenant would be Dierbergs (Schnucks of course would never rent to them).

Am I daft? Not one of these comments makes sense to me.

Wish I could walk there but not a sidewalk to be found. Cars rule the world. Too bad.

The former Schnucks is too small for Dierbergs. Des Peres would also have to take homes that are behind the center… No way. Better question… did Scnucks get and public money for their store? Is Dierbergs asking for any?
