Rams owner Kroenke looks to add to his arsenal of teams
Stan Kroenke, who owns 40 percent of the Rams, is inching closer to a takeover bid at Premier League soccer team Arsenal, based in London. Every purchase of the team’s shares by Kroenke, no matter how small, is detailed in the British papers. Once his stake hits a certain level, he has to make an offer for the remaining shares.
Enos Stanley Kroenke, named after Cardinals greats Enos Slaughter and Stan Musial, has remained characteristically quiet. He’s a behind-the-scenes kind of guy. ESPN Soccernet takes a guess at Kroenke’s intentions in an article today. Their summation: The “shy American” is in it for the long haul, which appears to make Arsenal fans, shareholders and board members reasonably happy.
In general, the Brits don’t like Americans owning their soccer teams. The fans at Manchester United and Liverpool have caused a ruckus over Americans taking over.
Would we like the reverse — a Brit in charge of the Cardinals? England and baseball don’t exactly go together like fish and chips, although Redbirds hurler Danny Cox was born in England. And St. Louis product Frank Simek plays soccer in Sheffield. And St. Louis is as rainy as London, right? Cheerio!

You gotta love this guy’s name! Great article.
More like: The Brits don’t like overleveraged owners in charge of their soccer teams: Malcolm Glazer at Manchester United, Tom Hicks at Liverpool. And they’re right not to.
Randy Lerner, who owns the Cleveland Browns, bought Aston Villa a couple of years ago and has been very well received by English fans. He didn’t burden the team with debt, and has done a nice job in quietly rebuilding the team by hiring good people and running the club in a financially sound manner.
I’m not sure, but I think an American also owns Sunderland.
Sure enough: Ellis Short, a Texan born in Independence, owns Sunderland: #8 in the standings, a point behind Villa.
Don’t mess with a good thing, Stan! You don’t understand Football, and i don’t think you can appreciate what Arsene Wenger is doing out there. Stick to your side of the pond and the Colorado Rapids! We Gooners are not Manure Utd or Chelski fans!
