About a week ago, we wrote about a Lincoln County mother who was accused of beating her 15-month-old son and fracturing his skull. This week, the child’s baby sitter called sheriff’s department investigators and said she was responsible for the boy’s injuries.

The babysitter, Sheri Lynn Diehl, 30, of the 6000 block of Saddle Ridge Road near Troy, Mo., now is charged with felony child endangerment. The mother, Billie Jo Lloyd, has been released after prosecutors dropped a first-degree assault charge.

Lloyd spoke to us this afternoon. She said her son is home, and doctors believe he will not have lasting effects from his injuries. She said she felt a range of emotions while she was in jail for about a week.

“I thought I was going to prison for something I didn’t do,” she said.

You can read more about the case on our Crime Beat blog.

It was decent of Ms. Diehl to step forward and admit guilt. I commend her for that. So often people let someone else take the blame for something they did. I hope whoever is in charge of sentencing her takes that into consideration.

(Like many articles at this website, this one appears in two different places, with comment threads at both an dno link connecting the two. Is P-D really THAT disorganized?)

Hope Ms. Diehl gets help…yes, she screwed up but obviously there is still a conscience at work in her.

We can work with that.
