O’Fallon City Hall closing Wednesday for Mayor Bill Hennessy’s private meeting
O’Fallon City Hall will lock its doors to the public for an hour Wednesday afternoon so newly-elected Mayor Bill Hennessy can talk privately with employees about the future of the city.
City Hall will shut down from 3 to 4 p.m. while Hennessy holds a pep talk with employees in the upstairs gymnasium.
City spokesman Tom Drabelle said the meeting will give Hennessy the chance to tell staff about his direction and vision for the city.
The city declined a request from a reporter to attend the meeting.
Hennessy was sworn in last month after he defeated Jim Frain and Councilman Pierce Conley in the April 7 election.

Let’s hope this is the first step in moving forward for O’Fallon and not the first step in the new mayor further driving a divide among city employees and groups. . .I can understand not having this meeting open to the public, but to not allow a reporter to sit in on it raises a red flag to me.
So they are denying reporter & public access? Is this ‘meeting’ not subject to Missouri Sunshine laws?
Here we go again! I knew it would take no time at all for someone to start screaming “Conspiracy” and Ofallon Dog and J Smith proved me right! O’fallon is like a cartoon… Beavis & Butthead!
J Smith, unless a quorum of elected officials are in the same place, it is not required to be open to the public. If it’s just the Major meeting with the employees, it can be closed to reporters and the public. I believe in transparency, but even elected officials should be allowed to have private meetings with staffers, whether one-on-one or a group.
I hope Bill gets rid of the Bob soon. The Bob will stab you in the back.
This is an OUTRAGE. I don’t think this is what the people voted for to be shut our of their own City Hall. This sounds like a violation of the Sunshine law to me. We need to tighten the sunshine laws pass Tim Jones bill here is the bill below!

This IS an outrage??? How dare they close “our” City Hall for any reason for a whole hour. It should be open 24/7. Never, never think about closing on holidays or week-ends. Don’t even think about closing one day a year for employees appreciation picnic.
I can’t believe someone hasn’t stood up by now and demanded that we not be shut out of “our’ City Hall. I would hope that someone contacts the FBI and demands an investigation as they have in the past for things less serious.
Let’s vote everyone one of the nuts out of office and take back our City.
Let’s march down main street and shut down traffic to make our point.
These buildings should be open 24/7 and to ask less of our local govt. is an insult to its citizens.
Hey troubled Boo Hoo - why not just ell the public why?
