A 61-year-old man was found dead this morning near the entrance to the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area, authorities said.

Sheriff’s Lt. Craig McGuire said the man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He said a woman walking her dog about 8:50 a.m. found him on the ground next to a shed near the entrance of the wildlife area.

Authorities are still investigating but do not believe his death was suspicious.

A. Patriot…Gee, you could have a little compassion for the guy. And, more so, the family. They are the real victims here. Hey JOEL CURRIER, do we have an ID on him yet?

OfallonDude-
Because of the sensitive nature of suicide, we generally don’t cover them unless someone kills himself in a public setting/manner. Sensitive reporting considers how such coverage impacts relatives of the deceased and whether publicity might encourage imitation. This deceased is not a public figure; I consulted with my editor who decided it is not necessary to identify him.

Thanks, Joel Currier / Post-Dispatch
