Dan Foust might become Municipal League executive director
Former St. Charles County Councilman Dan Foust, who helped revive the county’s Municipal League in 2007-08, might become the organization’s executive director.
The league’s vice-president, St. Charles Councilman Richard Veit, said league board members are considering the possibility of creating such a position and naming Foust to it. Veit said he favors the idea if most other board members agree.
“I’m excited about the Municipal League getting its legs; ultimately we probably could use an executive director because of the commitments all the board members have with their own elected positions,” Veit said.
“I would want to make sure there’s a consensus” in favor among board members.
Opposed to the idea is Joe Brazil, who succeeded Foust as County Council chairman this year after Foust lost his seat on the council in the election last November.
Brazil, a league board member, said he has no criticism of Foust but questions the need for an executive director. He said the league meets only four times a year and asserted that board members can keep up with issues themselves.
Foust said he’s got a great deal of interest in the position, which he said would be parttime. “I’m not necessarily seeking it,” he said. “People have asked me to consider taking it.”
Foust, who was known for his outspokenness during his 12 years on the County Council, said “if they decide I may be too controversial” and reject him, ”that’s fine with me.”
Foust served previously on the St. Charles City Council and ran twice unsuccessfully for mayor of St. Charles. He also has talked about possibly running for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate next year as a longshot challenger to U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt of southwest Missouri.

Can’t St. Charles County come up with some original people instead of politician washouts for these positions? All we see are the same “good ol’ boys” with the same tired ol’ ideas. Surely there’s someone fresh who could really do something with the position.
Shouldn’t they place some educational requirements with a position and do a search based off the minimum requirements. This isn’t an elected position and you should try to find the best person based off job descriptions and education. Veit is trying to garner support for a judgeship. God help us all if he would ever be a judge. Have you watched him on the council floor. Let’s just say many knives sharper in the drawer. As far as Dan, he is a good man but if you want a directot he should be highly educated and qualified. Being an elected official only doesn’t qualify him.
I think there aren’t enough good public servants like Dan Foust who tells it like it is. His only detractors are the whining union folks who want to shut him up when he exposes the waste they created and we have to pay for.
Truthdetector, If Dan was running for office today I would vote for him again. There is a difference when it comes to elected officials and appointed positions within a Municipal League. These positions deserve the best and brightest minds. Lastly, Dan lost the race and it wasn’t just because of the Union vote. Many non-union voters voted him out. I realize that hurts but the numbers don’t lie. Dan served with honor and dignity and should be proud of his public service. That does not entitle him to an appointed position. Veit isn’t very bright when it comes this suggestion as well. Dan lost and those who voted Dan out will be voting for judge, Veit really isn’t doing himself any favors.
Its a good choice. Even better if Brazil opposes it.
He can’t win an election, so now he’s desparately seeking an appointment. When will Foust get the message that we’re done with him?
So it’s let make a job for the ousted former councilman who is having a hard time making a living? For once I can agree with Brazil.
Hey Susanna - why not prop up washed out councilmen with hi-paying jobs. Look at Bob Schnur.
brazilneeds to get a grip . because dan foust did not bow to brazil’s benefactor ,the whiner can not take it . Poor baby maybe some one needs to give ham another trip on a yatch in Florida ,oops !! wait a minute he said he was there but did not fish . ( sounds a little Clinton like does it not?)
