Where are the impressive flag displays in St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties?
Kurt Greenbaum, director of social media for the Post-Dispatch, started a Google map to list “better-than-average flag displays in the St. Louis area. You can view it here. More importantly, you can add to it.
The first one I could think of was the big flag outside Gingham’s Homestyle Restaurant off Highway 94. I’ve added that one to the map, but we need your help in identifying others around the area.
We’re looking for permanent displays of huge flags, multiple flags or flags that are otherwise particularly impressive.
Greenbaum started the project in anticipation of Flag Day, which is celebrated on June 14 each year.
If you’re having trouble adding a flag to the map, feel free to e-mail Greenbaum at kgreenbaum@post-dispatch.com with the location and some information. You can find him on Twitter, too: http://twitter.com/kgreenbaum.
Also, Flag Day presents a great opportunity for shutterbugs to practice their art. If you snap some striking shots, please share them at MySTLtoday or at our reader photo page.

Proposed Rule #1: Big flags on cellular telephone antenna towers disguised to be flagpoles do not count. Cellular companies capitalized on patriotism by making their towers look like thick flag poles and hoisting Old Glory up the side. It’s a disproportionate disguise geared toward making good intentioned people tolerate a tower in their own back yards, not a flagpole, so it should not count as a display more than a disguise.
FYI-Besides being Flag Day it is also the birthday of the U.S. Army.
I think the flag flying upsidedown at half mast at 6 Graystone Court in St. Charles MO 63303 is impressive.
