Weldon Spring festival to mark 25th anniversary as a city
Weldon Spring is holding a Heritage Festival on Saturday, Sept. 19, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its incorporation in 1984.
The festival also will focus on the much longer overall history of the community, which was first settled 160 years ago in 1849.
The event, featuring more than 50 food and craft vendors, will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the city park and city hall at 5401 Independence Road.
There also will be performances by two members of the Waterloo German Band (from noon to 2 p.m.); Mojo Tooth, a rhythm and blues band (2:30 to 5 p.m.) and the St. Charles Municipal Band (5:30 to 6:30 p.m.)
Other features include face painting, fire truck rides, a seed spitting contest, a hog calling competition, balloon sculptures and caricature drawings.
In addition to free parking on the city park front lawn, the city will run free shuttle buses every 15 minutes from the festival to a lot at Mary Emily Bryan Middle School at Independence Road and Patriotic Trail.
For a list of vendors and more information about the festival, go to the city website, www.weldonspring.org.
The festival will be followed up on Saturday, Nov. 7, by a ceremony commemorating the city’s restoration of the Treisch family log smoke house - which is believed to date to the 1850s.
