Rick Horton to speak at St. Peters Chamber of Commerce prayer breakfast
Broadcaster and former Cardinals pitcher Rick Horton will speak at the St. Peters Chamber of Commerce 2009 Community Prayer Breakfast on Nov. 13. The event is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at United Methodist Church of the Shepherd, 1601 Woodstone Drive.
This year’s breakfast is titled “A Time for Giving Thanks.”
Horton is known for his time as a baseball player and broadcaster, but he also has been director of the St. Louis Area Fellowship of Christian Athletes for 15 years.
Kristie Freed, communications and events director for the St. Peters Chamber, said people of all faiths and religions are invited to participate. Seating is very limited, she said.
“We feel that it is important to take a morning away from hectic business schedules and come together in the spirit of prayer,” Freed said in a news release.
Tickets are $20 per person in advance and $25 the week of the event. Proceeds from this year’s event will go to the CHOICES Program, a two-hour classroom seminar to help middle school students realize the long-term effects of the decisions they make in school today.
The breakfast begins at 7 a.m., and the hour-long program begins at 7:30 a.m.

Rick Horton saw the end of Busch Stadium, former home of the St. Louis Cardinals, from the KPLR-TV Channel 11 broadcast booth where he has been the color commentator for four seasons. He saw the inaugural season of the new Busch Stadium continuing his coverage of forty Cards games in ’06 A former Major League Baseball pitcher and World Series winning team member, Horton’s deep background on the field has made him ideal for the role of “color guy”.
“We feel that it is important to take a morning away from hectic business schedules and come together in the spirit of prayer,” Freed said in a news release. What a crock, mybe if they had “hectic business schedules” things would actually get done. And for what prayer of all things, I’m St.Charles and i want my money back. As for the choices program these are the same people that teach abstinence-only classes. Dumb down our kids and get a 25$ breakfest to pay for it. IM PROTESTING CHEAP TRICKS NEVER SEEM TO GET OLD. As for Horten he and Bob Carpenter can go away and never come back.
Chamber of Commerce prayer breakfast? Jesus was a capitalist? I think not. Guess a little bit of prayer helps the Chamber feel good about their misdeeds.
