Update 6:51 p.m. Wednesday: Court records show McCormack was on probation for a felony drug possession case involving a prescription painkiller.

St. Charles police say a magazine salesman offered a teenager drugs, prompting the girl’s father to hunt him down and beat him with a metal pipe.

Both men have been charged with felonies.

It started last Thursday, police said, when William J. Bishop, 21, knocked on the door of a home in the 200 block of Brookdale Drive. He was working for a traveling magazine sales company called “New Generation,” they said.

Bishop later told police he was homeless and gave them an address for his father in Honor, Mich.

Detective Derek Piasecki said a 15-year-old girl answered Bishop’s knock, and he offered her an anti-anxiety drug if she would let him perform a sexual favor. The girl told police Bishop also offered to buy her beer, and he touched her inappropriately. Then, he left.

The girl called her father, Daniel S. McCormack, 41, of St. Charles, police said, and he tracked down Bishop in the 100 block of Paula Drive. McCormack hit Bishop with a two-foot-long metal pipe.

McCormack admitted to using the pipe, although he told police he only hit Bishop in the leg. Police said Bishop had several head injuries, and McCormack bragged to them about Bishop “getting what he deserved.”

Police said they found prescription drugs on Bishop, who admitted he wasn’t supposed to have them. He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance.

McCormack has been charged with assault.

These “magazine salespeople” come to my door all the time, prompting me to get a “No Soliciting” sticker for my door.

They use tactics to try to get into your house … I’m sorry, young lady … I don’t care HOW hot it is outside, I’m not letting you in my house for a glass of water.

That’s ALL I need, is some chick claiming something happened in my house.

Talk about liabilities!!

Not to mention, in order to go door-to-door selling anything in St. Charles, you’re supposed to get a permit.

I hope Mr. McCormick has a good lawyer given his prior record. This man should be applauded and made a hero! So many parents today don’t take an active role in parenting. Not only did his daughter feel comfortable enought to tell him, but he took action! GREAT JOB Mr. McCormick! You are in my prayers!

I say, if the Prosecuting Attorney won’t plea it down to a misdemeanor or dismiss the charges all together, McCormack should exercise his right to a jury trial. I Think a jury of 12 peers would find him not-guilty!

I agree that the magazine salesman should be in jail. I understand the reasons for the father being charged with assault but, how about teaching your teenage daughter not to answer the door when it is someone they do not know? My teenagers would never open the door to someone they don’t know for this very reason, and much worse things as well.

So now we charge people with assault on drug pushing pedophiles??? Where exactly is the crime here again?

I am glad he thumped this freak. I think we should create a legal fund for this gentleman. If we did more of this kind of stuff maybe we would not have a 21 year old offereing sex to our teenagers at the door of the their home. What a freak!!!!!!!!!

Dude was just trying his mad pick up skills. The Dad later found him and gave him a lesson in the popper technique of the classic golf swing. I really don’t see the crime here. On another note the magzine sale crews are forced labor who often give out drugs, beat and treaten there members. They are the ones bringing the trash to our home towns.
