Susan Weich and I co-wrote a story that ran June 19 about those searching for their American GI dad using the Military Records Center in Overland. Chas Beat also featured the story of another War Baby searching for his father that we couldn’t fit in the print story.

Since then, researchers have offered both John Wastle (the man who came from Scotland to research his father at the National Personnel Records Center in Overland) and Norman Spencer help in their search. They both remain cautiously optimistic about finding their father or their father’s family.

In a posting on the gitrace.org listserv, John Wastle wrote:

“The article in the newspaper brought me some unforeseen contacts. The President of the American War Brides contacted me, she lives close to St. Louis, she recalled my posting on their website and she later met up  with me and will include another posting on their web page, I made her more aware of the GItrace web site. I was also contacted by a guy who also lives in the St Louis area, he had read the newspaper article and knew of me from a posting I had made on a Pennsylvania Adoptees web page, he had helped me in the past and came to meet me. I was also contacted and helped by a professional researcher.”

In addition, a Scottish TV channel plans on updating a previous story about Wastle’s search to include his visit to St. Louis.
