Will you spend the ‘Night Out’ in St. Charles?

Next Wednesday, St. Charles will hold its annual “St. Charles Night Out” celebration across town.

It will start a 7 p.m., and city officials are encouraging folks to mingle with their neighbors and police officers at block parties throughout the city.

This year, the city parks department will dedicate the Vogt Brothers Park at 6 p.m. at 500 Fairgrounds Road just off Friedens Road.

The police department is calling the night out a “crime and drug fighting event.”

What are your thoughts on these types of community functions? Are they effective tools to reduce crime? Fun? Will you trade a night with Jay Leno for an evening with your neighbors and police officers?

First off this is a church night so no we will not be mingling. Furthermore our cul-de-sac already keeps an eye on each others homes and cars. Additionally, how many people need another excuse for a beer-fest?

It’s not a Church night for us so a BEER FESTIVAL sounds great.

A church night? This is suppose to be a positive function… but people are so miserable, they cant even mingle w/ there neighbors and have a nice time. I thought thats what christians were suppose to do anyway. Love thy neighbor??

Are you kidding? To say that it is a CHURCH night for YOU is fine. It is not for everyone, nor is it an automatic that there will be drinking involved. I love the idea simply because I have lived in my area for 5 years and hardly know my neighbors. I think it is a great way to meet people, get to know one another and let children play.

You have every right to refrain from gettingto know your neighbors. But don’t be too disappointed if your house ever gets burglarized and your neighbors have no info to offer investigators. Getting to know your neighbors does not come wth the obligation of hanging out with them….you can be cordial and get to know someone without having to be best pals.
