It’s raining and our teams lost, but here’s some good news

Maybe it’s the fact that it’s raining — again — or maybe it’s because the Cards, the Blues and Mizzou all lost last night, but I’m feeling a little down today.

Maybe you’re feeling the same way. I thought it might be a good time to share some good news. I’ll start things off.

Remember the story I wrote on Tuesday about the Mehlville grads helping out their super fan who was homeless? Well, the grad who took Tim “Ozzy” Osborn into his home, sent out this message on Facebook.

“I drive downtown to work and get off I-55 at Gravois/Tucker every morning. There is often a homeless guy there with a sign saying “Homeless Vet - Please Help”. I have given him money in the past.

This morning, with the rain coming down I saw him as I pulled to the red light. Suddenly, there was a tapping at my window and when I opened it he was standing there! He asked me if I was Ken Stevenson from the paper, and I said I was. He stuck his hand in the window with a $5 bill and said, “I met Tim in the past and just wanted to help.” Before I could say anything he jogged across Gravois in the other direction. I sat there for a minute until someone started honking at me and then drove off.”

OK. Now it’s your turn. Share some good news.

It’s a beautiful Saturday morning. Today is Lindenwood’s homecoming. I visited campus earlier and the excitement is palpable. Homecoming parade, activity everywhere, returning alums…all of the things that make homecoming special at any school…but at a small college, it is a very special time. Everyone seems connected and the energy is contagious. I think there is nothing more enjoyable than a Fall morning in the midwest and homecoming on a beautiful small college campus. Thanks.

Susan,

Your wonderful story has moved to another level of emotional impact. Last week, a 3rd grader had overheard his teacher telling this story of the homeless man who donated $5 to Ozzy, but did not say anything. The next day, the student walked up to his teachers desk and gave her a five-dollar bill and asked if she could give it to the homeless man. Doing and sharing good things for each other results in our children wanting to follow suit.
