Cops: Seniors report brothers who start fire in Wentzville McDonald’s
Joel Currier
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

A busload of senior citizens having breakfast Friday morning at a Wentzville McDonald’s wasn’t exactly “lovin’ it” when two homeless brothers and another person, police say, started a fire inside the restaurant and sprinted out.

Daniel C. Kortkamp, 17, and his brother, Thomas R. Kortkamp, 18, each have been charged with knowingly burning or exploding, a felony. Police are looking for a third suspect, whose identity has not been released.

Capt. Kevin Pyatt of the Wentzville Police Department gave this account:

A McDonald’s employee asked the trio to stop smoking cigarettes inside the McDonald’s restaurant in the 700 block of West Pearce Boulevard. Then, the three grabbed some paper towels from the bathroom and lit them on fire at the table where they were sitting.

A group of seniors having breakfast witnessed the fire and told police what happened. The fire damaged a table inside the fast food restaurant, but injured no one.

The seniors gave officers a description of the Kortkamps, who were found nearby stopped along West Pearce Boulevard after their car, which they had been living in, ran out of gas.

Both were being held today in lieu of a $20,000 bail.
