Rush Limbaugh’s Karma
The old adage, “You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar”, has been validated this week by Rush Limbaugh’s denial of NFL team ownership. If Rush is receptive, a life lesson on karma may be attained.
On some level, good comes to those who do good. I think we are psychologically hardwired to honor and help others for good behavior. Karma is manifested daily in our interpersonal relationships.
We also recognize that bad things happen to good people. The story of Job is a lesson in this reality. Karma is expressed in one way, but not in all ways. Karma is a chapter of our existence but not the whole story.
Rush Limbaugh was denied the privilege of NFL team ownership last week. What did he do that evoked negative karma? Historically, Rush has been derisive and hurtful. This blog makes no attempt to judge any specific comments by Limbaugh (not that I couldn’t). I would rather widen my attention on social behavior in a more general sense.
Everyone has beliefs they feel are important enough to fight for. We all have at least some of the “warrior” in our personality. We should stand up for what we believe. Rush Limbaugh has spent his entire radio career standing up for his beliefs. Unfortunately, he has been hurtful to others in his methods. So how do we fight for our beliefs without hurting others? Carolyn Pearson in her book, The Hero Within teaches that the mature method of standing up for ones beliefs is to become a bridge-builder. The warrior within each of us functions best when we find places to socially connect with others. I like the bridge-building theme. Why build walls when we can build bridges?
Social relations are difficult to establish and maintain. They become impossible when we draw ideological “lines in the sand”. The elimination of a We/Other mentality is paramount to any improvement in human relations. In no area is bridge-building more needed than in matters of religion.
If Rush Limbaugh’s career had been spent building bridges and solving problems, the NFL owners would have recognized the positive contributions he may have made to the NFL. Because of his derisive behavior, a window of opportunity closed in his life. I hope that someday a door of loving behavior is opened in him.

This message is a message of truth that is taught within the pages of Christian Scripture that many proclaiming Christians have appear to have forgotten in their run to defense of Rush Limbaugh. How tragic for those who call themselves Christians to ignore this truth.
And this derisive article is building what type of bridge, Mr. Smith???
A#, Great point. I recognize the absurdity of the post. I was tempted to add an author’s note at the bottom of the page. But I decided the comment page was more appropriate.
I realize that my challenge is not to treat Rush Limbaugh as the Other. I hope everyone can see through the negativity to the positive karma in the blog. I especially hope some will find Carolyn Pearson’s work as enlightening to them as she has been to me. Peace,Ed
Oh so if Rush would have just bought the liberal propaganda the media spews out for the last 20 years, then he would have gotten the Rams. I wouldn’t say he’s hurt others, unless you believe Brian Burwell. I’d say he takes a strong conservative position on issues, which is what America used to do.
You’re thesis is such a red herring. You could apply that to so many things. Maybe if America wasn’t the most powerful nation in the world, we wouldn’t have been attacked on 9/11. Maybe if the Catholic Church changed it’s principles, everyone would be Catholic. But maybe if it did that, the church that Jesus founded wouldn’t even exist anymore. These games of speculation are a waste of time. Limbaugh is what he is, and he was sandbagged by liberals that are intolerant of anyone with a different opinion.
Actually, yoyo, as has been pointed out elsewhere, he lost (my opinion) because Mr. Checketts and the owners felt him to be more potential liability than benefit.
Would the NFL owners REALLY want someone on the inside with a propensity for saying that they were naked emperors? I doubt it.
“…a Humanist,Zen,Daoist, Absurdist,Christian.(What does one leave out?)”
Nut…??
I’ve been called a nut more than once. I’ve earned the designation. Peace, Ed
ED, is it true that you can’t spell Humanist without N-U-T ??
Rush is a shock-jock. He’s an entertainer. He’s going to do whatever it takes to push his ratings and make money. Period.
George Carlin once said, “I love people, I hate groups of people. People are smart, groups are stupid.” Stop painting a broad stroke with your conspiracy theories. The NFL is NOT against conservative Republicans - the league is filled with rich, conservative Republicans. Rush got booted out, not because he’s a conservative, but because he’s Rush. Do you think that Barry Goldwater, Ron Paul, Ayn Rand, Ronald Reagan, Dennis Miller, & William Faulkner would’ve been thrown out of an ownership group due to their conservatism? All of them are conservatives. All of names mentioned were strong personalities that stand/stood up for what they believe in.
Stop with the broad strokes. Stop with the conspiracy theories.
Sedona Sam,
It appears that you jockeying on these threads to gain a position as Rush Limbaugh’s sidekick.
