(2) Democratic candidate Barack Obama scolded absentee fathers on Sunday, Father’s Day. According to the NYTimes, Mr. Obama noted that
“more than half of all black children live in single-parent households,” a number that he said had doubled since his own childhood……”
(3) Meanwhile, black pro-life advocates will be protesting outside the upcoming Cincinnati, Ohio annual NAACP meeting. Rev. Clenard Childress, a New Jersey pastor, said
“Because 2008 is an election year, the presidential candidates will undoubtedly speak at the convention. This gives us a national stage to make our case to the American people, as a whole, as well as the convention delegates.”
The NYTimes published an article A Life of Quality: Harriet McBryde Johnson:
“…..What many saw when they looked at her was a scrawny woman with a twisted spine who got around with a power wheelchair and lots of help. What she saw was a world that refused to make room for the severely disabled, one that looked at people like her if it looked at them at all with horror, hostility, condescension and pity, a sentiment she hated…..”
(4) The BBC reports that the ovulation moment has been caught on camera: a human egg has been filmed in close-up emerging from the ovary for the first time, taking 15 minutes…..
(5) Lesbos Islanders have been in court this week over the misappropriation of the Lesbian name:
“We are very upset that, worldwide, women who like women have appropriated the name of our island,” said Dimitris Lambrou, a magazine publisher and one of the islanders making the complaint. “Until 1924, according to the Oxford English dictionary, a Lesbian was a native of our isle,” he said. “Now, because of its new connotations, our womenfolk are unable to call themselves such and that is wrong.”
(6) NARTH (National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality) reports on the increasing threats to ex-gays:
“…..more and more ex-gays are reporting being targeted for ridicule or violence for openly leaving homosexual behaviors. In addition, professional groups are being pressured to remain silent about the possibility of change.
Regina Griggs, executive director of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays says her organization and staff members have been repeatedly attacked because of their message: there are ex-gays.

(7) And the latest on the bishop of London, C. of E., and two gay priests who exchanged rings and vows in a church ceremony, violating Anglican guidelines:
LONDON (AP) - The bishop of London said Sunday he would order an investigation into whether two gay priests exchanged rings and vows in a church ceremony, violating Anglican guidelines.
The priests walked down the aisle in a May 31 service at one of London’s oldest churches marked by a fanfare of trumpets and capped by a shower of confetti, Britain’s Sunday Telegraph reported.
The bishop, the Right Rev. Richard Chartres, said such services are not authorized in the Church of England. He said he would ask the archdeacon of London to investigate.

Sherry Tyree, 66, a graduate of John Burroughs School and Washington University, is a founding member (1984) and Vice President of Women for Faith & Family, a national Catholic women's organization that supports and defends traditional church teachings. Sherry is married to Dr. Donald A. Tyree, professor emeritus, School of Business, St. Louis University.
Politicians will use any resource available to effect change in human endeavor and this includes affiliation with religious organizations. It is not likely that Tony Blair would have been so successful with the Northern Ireland peace process without protestant credentials:

Now that he is an international envoy, affiliation with the Catholic church with its broader connections suits him. He may also be getting better support from his wife, who is Catholic.
Like Bill Clinton, who has been called the first black president while not being black, George Bush is being called the first Catholic president without being registered as such:

Will George Bush “convert” to Catholicism? It may depend on his next job. Methodist christians are more likely to use their church than be used by it and he has already changed religions once.
