So I’m listening to this show on the radio the other day, and people are fighting about Heaven.

Go ahead, let that one sink in for a minute.
The panel that was discussing had gotten worked up and heated, all because they disagreed on some of the finer points about what Heaven looked like and what the Bible means when it talks about the new Heaven and new Earth.
Did I mention this was a Christian radio program?
Sigh.
Personally, my vision of Heaven does not include sitting on clouds playing harps or honest to goodness streets of gold - But I’ll be the first to admit that I have no idea…

ATLANTA 20 April 2009 Hundreds of thousands of volunteers from community and faith-based organizations will strengthen communities and bring relief to those struggling because of the economic downturn in an unprecedented single day of service across 11 southern states on 25 April 2009.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints organized the project under the direction of Elder Walter F. González, who presides over church affairs in the southern United States. He challenged over 665 congregations from Florida to Indiana to join forces with other faiths and civic organizations to render significant community service in what is being called “The Helping Hands and Linking Arms Project.”
Elder González said: “It’s powerful when like-minded people join together to meet a wide spectrum of needs in diverse communities. We can bring help and hope to others no matter what their circumstances.”

If you or someone you know is looking for a way to make a difference in our community, and you have an hour a week to change a person’s life for the better (and really, you know you do), check out the Senior Connections program run by the Singer Institute of St. Louis. Senior Connections provides training, ongoing support, and placement for volunteers who make a weekly visit to a person in a nursing home who otherwise would have no visitors. Can you imagine being shut in with no contact from the outside world? Turns out many many people are living such lives. But you can provide the simple human connection they need to thrive.
