It’s a big night for conductor Leonard Slatkin, composer Joan Tower and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, whose “Tower: Made in America” won three Grammy awards, including “Best Classical Album.” It’s a big night for Naxos, their label, as well.

This marks the second time Slatkin has won for contemporary music, his longtime specialty; two years ago his recording of William Bolcom’s massive “Songs of Innocence and Experience,” also on Naxos, won three Grammies as well.

Most of the other winners are deserving. Left out in the cold this year: Renee Fleming, whose “Homage” deserved better.
