Florez and the fishbone

Post-Dispatch Classical Music

Lyric Opera of Chicago has announced that Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez has had to cancel all his performances in the company’s production of Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia: the company announced on Thursday that he has a serious throat infection, caused by swallowing a fishbone. His doctors have told him to avoid singing until the middle of March. American tenor John Osborn will replace Flórez as Count Almaviva for LOC’s 12 performances.
