Audition season is upon us
The flowers are blooming, and so are the audition announcements. This year’s concert season may be ending, but the area’s musical organizations are already gearing up for next fall. Here are three choruses and an orchestra:
The St. Louis Symphony Chorus, led by Amy Kaiser, will hear singers in all voice parts in late April and early May for symphonic repertoire that includes the Verdi Requiem, John Adams’ “El Nino,” Beethoven’s Symphony #9, “Choral” and more. The St. Louis Chamber Chorus, which performs a cappella choral music under the direction of Philip Barnes, has quartet of world premieres by noted choral composers lined up for next season, along with music by Monteverdi, Bach, Vaughan Williams and others. The Bach Society of St. Louis, directed by A. Dennis Sparger, will hold auditions for section leaders and young artists in late May. (Look for regular chorus auditions in August.) To find out more, visit www.bachsociety.org or call 314-652-2224.
Finally, for young instrumentalists, the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra will hold its preliminary auditions May 9 and 10; the deadline to register is May 1. The Youth Orchestra is open to students between the ages of 12 and 22 who participate in their school music programs.
