Brewer wins BBC contest…
…and you helped.
Soprano Christine Brewer is based in the St. Louis area, but she does a lot of singing in Great Britain. She was among the nominees for the “BBC Listeners’ Award 2008″ this year — and she won. The link for online voting was posted here on Classical Music/Culture.
“This was such a thrill for me to win, especially since I sing so much in the UK,” Brewer said in an email. Her husband “Ross flew over and was able to come to the dinner with me and my managers. It was so much fun! I was also up for Singer of the Year along with Sir John Tomlinson and Natalie Dessay. John won for his third time, and primarily it was because of his stepping in at the last minute when Bryn Terfel pulled out of the Ring performances at Covent Garden. John is an amazing singer - he sang Hagen in the Gotterdammerung that I did at the Proms last summer. I was so impressed with his singing and artistry. He is fantastic!”
Brewer adds, “This is the one that you all voted for online. Many thanks to my loyal friends and family!”
