Local City Voices Chorus Wins Second Place

Tulsa, Okla., August 1, 2008 – The City Voices Chorus of Sweet Adelines International took second place at the Harmony Classic Division AA Competition held on July 19, 2008, in San Antonio, Texas. Fifty-three of the 60-member chorus performed on stage and wowed the judges and audience with its creative and musical 15-minute entertainment package.

The City Voices Chorus of St. Louis, Mo., led by their director, Jerilee Inghram, was one of five mid-sized choruses invited to compete in the international contest. This year’s qualifying competitors were champions from the Sweet Adelines International 2007 Regional Competition. Winning at the regional level has made this the third year for the City Voices Chorus to take the stage at the Harmony Classic Competition where they represent mid-size choruses throughout the world. Taking second place this year is a major achievement.

With the many hours they spend together singing and rehearsing, the City Voices Chorus members have developed an extended family of loving friendships between women ranging in ages from 13 to 80. Although their second place honor is a result of commitment and determination, it is more fun for them then it is work. The chorus members take every opportunity to laugh, enjoy each other’s company and celebrate their passion for singing together.

Among the chorus membership there are several family ties including two sets of mothers and daughters, two aunt and niece pairs as well as a granddaughter and grandmother combination. The City Voices Chorus can be heard every Thursday evening rehearsing at the Church of the Good Shepard in St. Louis, Mo., and can be found performing nearly every summer for the St. Louis Cardinals games.
