Christine Brewer gets new teaching gig
Lebanon, Illinois’s only resident internationally acclaimed dramatic soprano, Christine Brewer has a new affiliation: she’s now a “Visiting Artist in Residence” in the Webster University Department of Music. Her duties will include giving master classes for voice students, as well as guest lectures on the things singers need to know that’s usually overlooked at music conservatories: topics like career development, vocal health and arts management.
Webster, which has a new music department chairman in Jeffrey Carter, has been stepping up its vocal studies in recent years. Signing on Brewer – one of the BBC’s “20 top sopranos” in the world – should demonstrate to talented students that the department is serious about training singers with real career potential.
