Cardinals’ Lohse follows in Carpenter’s path
St. Louis Cardinals righthander Chris Carpenter pitched one-hit ball for seven innings in his first start of the season on Thursday. And righthander Kyle Lohse was on his way to doing that today.
After permitting a leadoff single to Houston’s Kaz Matsui in the first inning, Lohse set down the next 18 hitters and finished six innings having thrown just 68 pitches as the Cardinals led, 3-0.
Lohse, who was 3-0 against Houston in his first season with the Cardinals in 2008, was staked to two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth wth shortstop Khalil Greene figuring in both rallies. Greene, whose average had dipped to .182, singled to start the two-run burst in the fourth and drove in a run in the fifth with a two-out single.

We went today and were simply hoping for a game with even a hint of yesterday’s fun. Today was just as exciting, but in such a different way … precise, swift, clean. All those little nuances of baseball were there. We’re so blessed to live in such a great baseball town!
Great win today! If starters keep giving us at least seven innings or more per outing like Kyle did today it is going to be long summer for the rest of the NL Central.
If this continues, I would take the top three of our rotation against anybody. Lohse, Wainwright, and Carpenter can be awfully dominant when they’re on. That’s not even mentioning what could come from Pineiro continuing his current run of good outtings. All we really need is Wellemeyer to be average after his regression.
So, I’m just curious…do all the Mo bashers out there still think Mo was wrong to give Lohse that contract? He’s looking like he will be at least as good as he was last year. And, even more important, the guy seems pretty darned durable. He’s a workhorse.
What does Ryan Ludwick have to do to became a everyday player? His stats were in the top ten for all outfielders(both leagues) and he had twenty less starts. He was hit home runs in two games this year and he’s on the bench the next day. On any other team he’s a everyday player after hitting .299, 30 plus homeruns and a 100 plus rbi’s in 2008. Shouldn’t the other three outfielders rotate for left and center and leave him alone to do his job? Why does Tony mess with him like this. Last year in September, Tony moved him around in the line-up, batting him second, so Albert got more rbi’s. I’m not anti any other player on the roster, but this doesn’t make sense.
