La Russa and Ryan at odds over . . . ghosts
Because they generally have nothing to do on any given day except go to the ballpark, especially when they’re in Milwaukee, some major-leaguer ballplayers have allowed their imaginations to run wild while lying in bed at the Pfister Hotel.
According to News 12 in Milwaukee, some players think the joint is haunted.
Among the spooked: Brendan Ryan of the Cardinals. He told the TV station of something paranormal in his room this week.
“It was more like a moving light that kind of passed through the room. It was very strange. The room got a little bit chillier,” Ryan said. “Strange things. Strange things.”
As is typically the case, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was not on the same wavelength as his young infielder.
“I think it’s a first-class hotel,” La Russa told Channel 12. “You get first-class care. And if there’s a ghost or two, they’re good friends.”

This is why I love LaRussa! Snarky to the core. Spins the company line better than anyone.
The ghosts are only friendly if they keep their shirts tucked in. Carp and Waino are the best 1-2 in baseball. Peace.
Sounds like they need to call ‘Ghosthunters’ or ‘Paranormal State’ TV shows and have them investigate…
If it helps them take 2 of 3 all year, let all the hotels be haunted!
This is why I love baseball. Way too much time sitting and standing around allowing the characters to come out in people. Great stuff.
@gcardinal: please stop calling Wainwright by that nickname. He doesn’t endorse or like it at all.
On a lighter note, no untucking or running off the field when the Brewers lose… taking care of business is the easiest way to avoid being irritated.
shirsch, how do you know? Not trying to be confrontational–just wondering where you come by that assertion, as I have heard a number of Wainwright’s teammates use that nickname.
shirsch, how do you know that waino doesn’t endorse that nickname? You close buddies with him? I saw where you or someone else said this somewhere else, and it got me to thinking. . . I was at a game last year where the pitchers were fooling around in the OF during BP and I’m pretty sure I remember one of the other pitchers calling him over to discuss a ”new pitch” and waino was what they called him to get him to come over.
You have to love Ryan. I hope they keep him around, even if he’s ultimately a utility player, he adds a lot of fun to the team.
