It didn’t take long for new St. Louis Cardinals infieider-outfielder Mark DeRosa to get here from Cleveland. DeRosa, acquired late Saturday night from Cleveland for righthanded reliever Chris Perez and a player to be named later, arrived in the Cardinals’ clubhouse before 9 a.m. and manager Tony Laa Russa installed DeRosa as his cleanup hitter, playing left field, today in the series finale.

With Minnesota lefthander Francisco Liriano pitching, La Russa has put as many righthanded batters in the lineup as he can. Liriano has held lefthanders to a .237 average this year and DeRosa, in turn, is a .339 batter against lefthanders this season.

Khalil Greene, absent from the lineup the last two days, will play third base and hit second. Jason LaRue will catch Joel Pineiro.

The Cardinals’ lineup:

Skip Schumaker 2b

Khalil Greene 3b

Albert Pujols 1b

Mark DeRosa lf

Ryan Ludwick rf

Rick Ankiel cf

Jason LaRue c

Joel Pineiro p

Tyler Greene ss

DeRosa is a GREAT pick-up for the Cardinals, and we hardly had to give up anything in return.. Mo now needs to ink him to a long-term deal. Goo0d move!

I disagree that we didn’t give up anything to get him, Perez is a top prospect and you don’t know yet who is on the TBN later list. But I definitely like the trade and it’s what we wanted the FO to do. I think we still need a bat, but it gives us a chance to wait and see what Glaus will bring, either in his play or in a trade. If he can’t throw, he would still be a good bat to DH, thus he would have value. IF he can play third, look at what that would do.

I agree that Derosa is a great pickup, but I completely disagree with the statement that we had to give up hardly anyone to get him. That same statement was made when we traded Dan Haren for Mark Mulder.

In the end the trade had to be made. It sends a great message to the clubhouse and it is a huge offensive upgrade. I just have this feeling that we might end up regretting it 3 years from now.

LaRussa has no idea how to make out a lineup. DeRosa is fine as cleanup against a RHP, but he should hit ahead of Albert when facing a lefty. DeRosa is more of a table stter vs LHP, and an RBI man vs RHP.

La Russa stacks right-handed line up:Prediction-Pineiro gets win with added run support. My pick to click…Ludwick.
