K. Greene disabled again

The lineups are up and St. Louis Cardinals infielder Khalil Greene isn’t in the Cardinals’ lineup, nor is he on the active roster now. Greene, disabled with a social anxiety disorder last month, has been disabled again with a similar problem, with righthander Clayton Mortensen recalled from Class AAA Memphis as the club’s 13th pitcher. Greene was nothing for his last 16, including two strikeouts on Sunday besides commiting an error at third base, and manager Tony La Russa was forced to remove him from the game after seven innings.

Shortstop Brendan Ryan, who missed the weekend series with Minnesota with a wrist problem, is back in the lineup but catcher Yadier Molina, who absorbed a heavy hit from Minnesota baserunner Michael Cuddyer on Saturday, is out again for Jason LaRue.

Newcomer Mark DeRosa, who batted fourth behind Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols in his first game on Sunday, will bat second ahead of Pujols tonight against San Francisco righthander Tim Lincecum, the Cy Young Award winner in the National League last season. DeRosa will play third base rather than left field, as he played on Sunday.

Rookie Colby Rasmus, who has struggled at bat lately, is the odd man out in the outfield configuration of Chris Duncan in left, Rick Ankiel in center and Ryan Ludwick in right. Brad Thompson is pitching.

The lineups:

San Francisco:

Aaron Rowand, cf

Randy Winn, lf

Pablo Sandoval, 3b

Bengie Molina, c

Nate Schierholz, lf

Edgar Renteria, ss

Travis Ishikawa, 1b

Juan Uribe,3b

Tim Lincecum, p

Cardinals:

Skip Schumaker, 2b

Mark DeRosa, 3b

Albert Pujols, 1b

Chris Duncan, lf

Ryan Ludwick, rf

Rick Ankiel, cf

Jason LaRue, c

Brad Thompson, p

Brendan Ryan, ss

Oh goodness, here come all of the ignorant remarks about how Greene should just ‘get over it’. I’d have thought by 2009 people would finally be aware of the way mental illnesses work and the fact that you can’t just suddenly decide not to have them anymore.

Okay, go ahead, bash him some more for making $6 million and having what yo call ’stress’. Trust me, stress is a freakin’ party compared to real anxiety disorders.

I would really like to see the outfielders take some pitches instead of swinging at the first pitch and anything else within 3 feet of the plate.

Shouldn’t the Cardinals have KNOWN about his problem BEFORE signing him?! Or at least have had him seek care before NOW?!? Sorry, but if this guy’s having this much trouble dealing with hitting or catching a baseball, I hope he’s not a parent……

Nope: by the rules and the contract, information about a player’s mental state is not available in trade talks.

When Ankiel struggles TLR keeps penciling him in the lineup to “get him going”. When Colby struggles he rides the pine despite the fact that he is by far the best OF glove.

I wonder if they’re planning on sending him to Memphis again. In the KC series at least, it seemed to have helped a little. Maybe some more time down there will help him keep himself more on an even keel. Unfortunately, he better work it out soon or get used to AAA life. At his current production level, he doesn’t offer much value to any MLB club

Man, it sure looks good to see DeRo’s name in the lineup. Well done Mo. This move sends a positive message to two guys I want to see around for a lot more years: Albert and Tony. Mo shows Albert that the organization is willing to make deals to help him and he shows Tony that his opinion matters and they trust his assessment of the team’s needs. I like this very much.

Good luck Khalil, welcome aboard Mark.

OMG! Duncan in the lineup again. And batting clean-up! Now that’s protection! God help us.

You would know that a comment regarding people being hard on KG would come from a girl. I’ll have a hard time sleeping after seeing that picture of KG. Those eyes…

Well, 1-3 of that lineup looks real nice.

Would prefer to see DeRosa at 4 or 5. The 4-8 slots will be a black hole against Lincecum.
