CINCINNATI — Eight-time All-Star and St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols will lead the National League into the 80th All-Star Game, which will be held July 14 at Busch Stadium.
The starting lineups for the NL and American League All-Stars were announced Sunday by MLB.
Pujols jockeyed with Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley throughout the final weeks of fan voting for the lead in the overall votes. A victory would mean this summer is the second time in his nine-year career that Pujols led the NL in votes received. Yadier Molina, the Cardinals’ catching, will be the NL starter for the first time in his career, having held off what was reported as a late online-voting charge by Atlanta’s Brian McCann.
Fan voting determined the starters for the game, with players voting to fill out the roster.
St. Louis native Ryan Howard will be a reserve on the NL roster. Former Cardinals Jason Marquis (of Colorado) and Dan Haren (of Arizona) are also on the NL staff.
