Ankiel back in Cardinals’ lineup
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
CINCINNATI _ Familiarity with _ and success againstĀ _ Cincinnati Reds righthander Homer Bailey has brought Rick Ankiel back into the St. Louis Cardinals’ lineup tonight here.
Ankiel, who had sat out the last two starts, will be in center field and hitting fifth tonight. Last year against Bailey, Ankiel homered in two at-bats. Chris Duncan, who will be in left field, also was one for two against Bailey.
The Cardinals’ lineup:
Skip Schumaker 2b
Chris Duncan lf
Albert Pujols 1b
Ryan Ludwick rf
Rick Ankiel cf
Yadier Molina c
Joe Thurston 3b
Joel Pineiro p
Brendan Ryan ss

The reason Duncan and Ankiel are in the lineup is because all of the success they have had against Bailey. Duncan is batting .500 and Ankiel is batting .667 with a HR. Duncan is 1 for 2 and Ankiel is 2 for 3. Unbelievable!!! Any reason to not have Colby is there everyday is just ridiculous.
If Jose Oquendo had a 350 lb, 4′6″ one-armed nephew (We’ll call him “Duaner Oquendo”) who wanted to play major league ball, how many at bats do you think the cardinals would give him? I say 500 over the course of a season -and-a-half.
Why all about Duncan? Ankiel has been a far more complete disaster. How can he be in any line up over Rasmus?
Somebody please rationalize why Duncan is getting the most playing time out of all our outfielders? And why the f*ck is Raz sitting AGAIN?!?!?!?!? I was never much into the whole conspiracy that TLR doesn’t wanna sit Dunc’s kid, but I see no other statistical reason to play DunCANT over Rasmus. This favoritism is making me sick. How many failed at-bats do we have to go through before LaRussa gets it???
ditto!
maybe tony could find brian mcrae and start him too.
Wait…..so is Duncan starting?
The Cards need to find a way to have Thurston, Ankiel and Duncan remain on the bench. How is this lineup—–
Schumaker RF
Ryan 3B
Pujols 1B
Ludwick LF
Rasmus CF
Molina c
T Greene SS
Hoffpauir 2B
Pitcher
Obviously, we need DeRosa and Glaus in the lineup, but this would do until then. Pujols should have the 2 highest batting average hitters in front of him in the lineup, not a .240 hitter batting 2nd (Ankiel, Duncan).
Nothing like stacking the lineup with a bunch of deadwood to insure the death of any rally the Cardinals manage to put together. I don’t care if Duncan got 1 hit in 2 ABs against Bailey LAST YEAR. All I care about is how he is hitting now, which is not at all, and that’s all Tony should care about, too, especially with options like Rasmus riding the pine! Since when is the Cardinals offense doing so well that Tony can EVER afford to sit a productive bat? I am SO sick of this. And I echo the sentiments of another poster in the hope that freakin’ Mozeliak will get enough backbone to either trade that loser or make Tony sit him. Whoo! Okay, I think that’s the harshest I’ve ever posted on here, but doggoneit, Enough IS Enough already!!!!!
“K” Ankiel strikes again! Great AB on 3 pitches. Yet, Colby rides the pines for this worthless uniform.
Great call LaGenius!
