CINCINNATI _ Righthander Kyle Lohse, who appeared in Springfield, Mo., on Thursday night to pitch for that Class AA affiliate, will continue his rehabilitation from a strained right forearm flexor on next Tuesday night at Class AAA Memphis.
Pitching coach Dave Duncan said he was told Lohse had command problems with his fastball and, since the Cardinals are off Monday, they don’t need another starting pitcher until a doubleheader in Chicago on July 12. So, Lohse will have one more rehab start, which is neither a surprise nor a particular disappointment to him.
“The way it shakes out, I’m only going to get one start more before the (All-Star) break, so I might as well take advantage of another tuneup,” Lohse said.
In other Cardinals news, infielder-outfielder Mark DeRosa, who has a strained left wrist, hopes to begin taking some swings on Saturday, with the intention of his being ready on Tuesday for the start of a three-game series in Milwaukee.
