In the wild-card era, there has been a carryover factor from the final month of the regular season to the playoffs. Of the 28 World Series teams in that span, 21 had a winning record in the final month. A look at the performances of this year’s playoff teams and the previous World Series teams in the final month:

Well, that doesn’t bode well…
Don’t worry about it STL fans — the Cards’ Sept. 2006 record was .429, and they won it all that year! Go Cards!!
Looks like St. Louis had a fair September in 2004, but blew it in the ‘04 WS.
Yet had a bad September in ‘06 and turned it on for the postseason with the good result we all remember.
