Matt Holliday: I lost it in the lights

Matt Holliday, who dropped a fly ball by James Loney in the ninth with two outs to set in motion the Dodgers’ rally over the Cardinals, said he lost it in the lights at Dodger Stadium.

“I couldn’t see the ball. I lost in the lights.

“I had it in the beginning but then the ball came down through the lights and I lost it.

“When that happens, you hope it hits your body or hits your glove.

“I just lost it.

“Tough to swallow. I feel terrible.

“The ball hit my stomach. I think I can catch a fly ball hit right at me.

“Wainwright pitched a good game, the bullpen did its job. I just didn’t catch it.”

Holliday had homered for the Cardinals to give them a 1-0 lead earlier in the game.

It has been a rough series so far for the Cardinals’ big off-season acquisition. He struck out with the bases loaded in the first inning when St. Louis had a chance to break that game wide open. The Cards lost it, as well, and are now down 0-2.

When negotiating his contract next season I think when he and his agent walk in the office they should have that high light (or low light) playing on a big flat screen television in the background, over and over and over

Duncan would have made that catch!

Mo should lose his contract in the lights. The playoffs are money time. The game should have been won on that play.

I feel for the guy. It sucks to be the goat. Our offense is struggleville.

I figured I could dart at the ball, put my seeds in my back pocket and catch the ball, it was a typical line drive which even Duncan could have caught. Too many mistakes to win and they almost did. So much for Game 4

Why is everybody so hostile? It’s disappointing, but it’s not like he wasn’t the source of 1/2 our offense tonight. It’s a wash with him..

Forget Holiday. Sign Jason Bay. He had a better season and won’t cost as much as ‘the sunflower kid’.

What is so bad about Holliday is blaming it on the lights. I don’t want any excuses. That is poor. Here is your headline: Cards get to take a Holliday

Calm down people! You can’t seriously put the whole loss on Holliday when Franklin gave up a walk and two hits! And why not go after the dormant offense? You need more than two runs to win! I’m sorry, but it’s the playoffs. I blame the entire team, except for Wainwright who pitched a gem. The offense needs to wake up!!! Stop blaming the losses on one or two guys! Yesterday it was Molina, today it’s Holliday…. SHUT UP!!!

Down in the playoffs by one game and now one game away from a embarrassing sweep, is not the time to try to bolster the confidence of a fading closer, especially when your starter has thrown a three hitter. I wouldn’t be supprised if Wainwright wouldn’t want to return to the Cards after the way they have treated him. Denied him a 20th victory and then blowing a playoff win when he had the game in control.
