Ryan Ludwick on his foul ball in Game 1

Ryan Ludwick nearly broke it open for the Cardinals in Game 1 with a ball down the left-field line off Jeff Weaver but the ball was ruled foul. He tapped out on the next pitch.

A day later, Ludwick’s thoughts: “When I hit it, I came out of the box fairly slowly, kind of watching it. I knew Manny wasn’t going to get there. But when I hit it it was one of those balls kind of where I knew I had gotten around the ball a little bit. I was out in front. It seemed to be hooking quite a bit. I thought it was going to be a lot further foul than it was. It ended up straightening up. That’s I started running a little bit more. But like Tony said, it is what it is. You keep hearing that phrase it’s a game of inches, and it was in inch that didn’t go our way last night.”

OK, Lud Man, we’ll have to take your word for it being a “game of inches,” since we still haven’t seen a replay of it.

It’s 2009 in America, but on TBS, it’s about 1972. I’m surprised they have cameras other than one high above and behind home plate.

I think Curt Gowdy might be calling tonight’s game.

The ball was fair. I’m a Dodger fan and I was sitting no more than 20 feet from where the ball landed with an unobstructed view, and it was fair. All of us around there agreed. We also wondered why LaRussa didn’t even come out to beef — not that it would have done any good. Sorry, Cards fans.

I would have like to have seen a replay (or even an initial shot) of that “hit” also, but the more I thought about it the more I figured I just get peeved off if it was in fact fair and called foul, because it wasn’t going to get overturned.

I agree with Mike and Dodgerfan (although I clearly wasnt as close). I am amazed and shocked that we havent see a replay. I went back on the DVR about 5 times to watch it, but its hard to tell.

Either way, it happened and hopefully the Cardinals can pull it out.

But seriously show us a replay.

I hate TBS

I too was sitting right above the left field line in the club level. Everybody around me agreed it was clearly fair. Most of us were Dodger fans. Since there was no good replay it didn’t become a controversy. It could have changed the whole series. It was strange the ump missed it since he was a outfield umpire they use only for the playoffs.
