Cardinals Outright Royce Ring
JUPITER, Fla. - The Cardinals have placed lefthanded reliever Royce Ring on waivers for the purpose of removing him from their 40-man roster. If no other major league team claims Ring, he will have the option of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Memphis or becoming a free agent. The Cardinals signed Ring for a $475,000 contract on Jan. 6. Ring, 28, was cast as one of those competing for a lefthanded spot in the bullpen alongside Trever Miller. Ian Ostlund and Charlie Manning were also placed in that competition.
Wednesday’s move leaves Miller and Dennys Reyes as the only remaining lefthanded relievers in camp. Reyes has yet to appear in a game for the Cardinals. Ring appeared only once after March 11, allowing three runs in one-third inning againts the Washington Nationals on Saturday. Assistant general manager John Abbamondi notified Ring of the move shortly before today’s game against the Houston Astros. The Cardinals now have 13 pitchers for 12 projected spots. The final roster decision could involve Chris Perez, tentatively scheduled to pitch in today’s game for his first appearance since March 11.

13 pitchers for 12 spots. I suggest that if Perez shows well in the last few games that he bump McCellan (sp) because he has show nothing to warrant a roster spot this spring.
Good point about McClellan. Going back to last summer and this spring… he is clearly, the most struggling Cardinal. I believe he gave up 6 runs the other day in parts of two horrendous innings in which he got only three outs. He was 2-7 last year, and that can say something about his (in)ability to pitch in clutch situations. I wonder if anyone at the Post-Dispatch will give us any insight into Kyle’s struggles, besides the same ol’ ”he hit a wall.”
Also Brendan Ryan. He is hitting .292, but with a .292 OBP, and a, suprise, .292 slugging pct. Than means he gets nothing but outs and singles… no walks, no doubles, nothing but a single or an out. And his defense is nothing spectacular. At his age, and this far into his development, it’s clear this guy has nothing to truly offer the team… there has got to be somebody in the organization that is in better position to be a back-up middle infielder.
Yeah Yeah Yeah,
I think you need to do better research before you type a false statement. Before todays game, Brendan Ryan had a .320 OBP. It looks like he has some walks and he has hit extra base hits at the major league level; just not this spring so far.
Brendan Ryan so far this spring has 7 hits, 1 bb, 3 rbi, 2 sb, and 8 runs scored. When he has got on base this spring, he scores.
