Kyle Lohse going for MRI on jammed right knee
ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Kyle Lohse will have an MRI taken of his right knee later tonight after feeling a pop in the joint during the fifth inning of Thursday’s victory against the New York Mets. Lohse pitched to five batters after jamming the knee, completing the fifth inning so that he qualified for the victory.
On a slow-rolling grounder up the first-base line, Lohse raced from the mound to cover first base.
The ball rolled up and then off Albert Pujols’ arm as Lohse ran by. The righthander tried to put on the brakes and field the ball, only to stop awkwardly and lurch forward. Jose Reyes was ruled safe at first base on an error by Pujols. Lohse stayed on the ground for a bit before being helped to his feet. He returned to the mound and gave up three hits to three of the next four batters. A double play got him out of the inning, and getting out of that inning meant he qualified for his third win of the season.
Lohse said the knee was still sore after the game, but he’s hoping that the pop was just fluid shifting in the knee and doesn’t expect anything to be damaged.
Results won’t be known until Friday.
“It wasn’t very normal to stop like that,” Lohse said. “As soon as I went to bend down it was pretty painful. … It takes me a lot to get me out of the game.”

Pop was fluid shifting in the knee?
When was the last time the Cardinals had an MRI that was negative?
I can see the season, slip slip. sliding away.
i say we pkg. a deal with ankiel and prospects to the padres for peavy.
what do you think?
it’s time to get some pitching help…enough of this wishful thinking and “fingers crossed” front office strategy. it’s time to be proactive and help the ballclub. billionaires can no longer use the recession as an excuse.
STEP UP AND FILL THE HOLES.
The padres want young players and ankiel will be a free agent so they will not go for it. Maybe they can get Looper back. They should have had 6 starters to start the season. There was no way a 6th starter would not get 20 starts for the birds this season.

You first…..
Is there any video of this? I was at the game last year where Gallardo tore his ACL in Chicago. It looked like nothing at the time, he stayed in and finished the game much like Lohse.
Any other team it would probably be okay but with the Cards record with pitchers we are probably looking at 2-3 months. Let’s hope not. It is time to get some help. We can’t count on Carpenter coming back at all.
This happened to me a few weeks ago - mine was a torn meniscus, which is cartilage in the knee that acts as a shock absorber. I could function fine for about a few minutes after it happened, then could not walk at all. Its better than an ACL or MCL tear in that the recovery time is quicker - 1 or 2 months with rest or surgery. But worse in that you can not completely repair/replace it like you can with a ligament.
Lohse has been serviceable for us - maybe not great, but good enough. I really hope he does not have a major injury.
On another note, I could not watch the game on TV, and could only follow it on espn Gamecast. But they showed countless pitches that were in the strike zone that were called balls. And not just barely in the strike zone, but right down the middle. Was the ump that bad or was Gamecast off its mark? It was consistent for both teams, but it seemed that the strike zone was almost non-existent. Any thoughts?
Vote for Pedro.
