Final fan vote features former Mizzou star Ian Kinsler
CINCINNATI — It wasn’t that long ago that Texas Rangers second baseman and former University of Missouri baseball star Ian Kinsler led the fan vote at his position, with a slight edge over Boston Red Sox infielder and reigning AL MVP Dustin Pedroia. Kinsler went from leading the fan vote to now being left to the final fan vote — a four-day sprint of online voting that will determine the 33rd spot on both leagues’ rosters.
The five candidates for the final spot on the National League roster are:
- Cristian Guzman, Washington
- Matt Kemp, LA Dodgers
- Mark Reynolds, Arizona
- Pablo Sandoval, Giants
- Shane Victorino, Philadelphia
The five candidates for the final spot on the American League roster are:
- Chone Figgins, LA Angels
- Brandon Inge, Detroit
- Ian Kinsler, Texas
- Adam Lind, Toronto
- Carlos Pena, Tampa Bay
Voting will be conducted for the final spots over the next four days at MLB.com and on mobile phones that use the Spring network. Last year, 47.8 million votes were cast in the “Final Vote” process.

Derrick Goold said he was going to Mizzou for capital-J journalism, but after growing up in the Time Zone Baseball Forgot he was really drawn to MU sitting between two major-league cities. Goold joined the Post-Dispatch in 2001 after working for The Times-Picayune and Rocky Mountain News, covering sports from LSU to NHL and every level of baseball in between.
I think Pablo Sandoval should be on the NL team OR BETTER YET the Cardinals starting 3rd baseman!! Adam Lind should be on the AL all star team. Really he SHOULD START over Josh Hamilton. I think Josh Hamilton was the ONLY player who did not have the stats to be on the 2009 AL all star team. NL fans did a great job!! Maybe WE can WIN this one so the Cardinals can have home field for games 1,2,6,7 in OCT. WOW 2009 ALL STAR game & 2009 WORLD CHAMPS!!!!!!! GO CARDINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
